Origins
Every bean we trade comes from one place: the volcanic highlands surrounding Mount Kerinci. One region, grown across two altitude zones, sourced with the same care from cherry to export.
Why Kerinci
Kerinci sits in the heart of West Sumatra, ringed by Mount Kerinci — at 3,805 masl, the highest volcano in Sumatra and one of the highest in Indonesia. That elevation gradient is what makes the region unusual: volcanic soil, clean mountain water, and consistent rainfall support both high-altitude specialty Arabica and lower-altitude commercial Robusta from the same highland district, in growing areas such as Kayu Aro and Gunung Tujuh.
Coffee has been grown here for generations — Robusta reached smallholders around Kerinci in the early 20th century and has been a mainstay of the local economy ever since, alongside a newer generation of specialty-grade Arabica that has earned Kerinci growing recognition in the wider Indonesian specialty coffee scene. The highlands border Kerinci Seblat National Park, one of Sumatra's last strongholds for the Sumatran tiger, which keeps much of the surrounding forest — and the microclimate it creates — intact.
We work directly with smallholder farmers across the region — hand-picked cherries, shade-grown trees, and processing methods chosen to match each lot's intended use, from bulk commercial blends to specialty single-origin.
